Wheelchairs

Most of our wheelchair sales are for basic models used simply to fit in the car or for an occasional run around the park. Sometimes carers and spouses are surprised how hard it is to push an occupied wheelchair up a gentle slope so look to a powerpack for assistance. If you are not regularly putting the chair in the car then a proper electric wheelchair provides cost effective independence for the user.

Apart from some specialist high-end wheelchairs most will be folded to fit in the car or neatly in the corner of a room. The large wheel or self-propelled type (pictured) is a little easier to push but a little heavier and bulky too. Try one for size and manageability prior to purchase.

We only sell the top brands to ensure a ready supply of spare parts. Most mainstream chairs weigh around 12 - 17kg complete.

Choose from top sellers like the Roma and Breezy ranges. Prices from £149.

Electric wheelchairs are much the same layout as a manual wheelchair with the addition of a drive unit both sides and a joystick control for the user. Cost effective and semi-portable you can have the control at the rear for a carer or dual controls even. A little cumbersome indoors yet good ground clearance means ok on pavements.

You can travel at speeds up to 4mph and benefit from a realistic range of 3 hours.

Favourites include the Pride LX, Quickie Rumba and Rome Sorrento. Prices from £1195

A powerpack can sometimes give the carer or attendant enough assistance to manage the inclines or distance required. It is effectively a detachable drive unit that clips onto mounts on your wheelchair. It’s not too heavy and you can remove the battery separately for charging indoors if required. They do not suit all wheelchairs, so make sure yours is compatible. The unit is only drivable from the rear.

The single small battery is still able to give 2 hours of run time assistance.

Best seller is the Roma Powerpack at £399 fitted.
