Scooters come in all shapes and sizes so it is important to ensure that you are comfortable and the machine has the necessary range, durability and stability. Sometimes the manufacturers get a little carried away with their claims for portability and manoeuvrability so you advised to see for yourself. We tend to categorise scooters into three main categories, portables or travel/boot scooters as they are often known; pavement scooters which are usually limited to 4 mph; and road scooters which are generally faster, better specified and road legal too.
Travel Scooters are a compact and boot friendly solution that works well on smoother surfaces like shopping malls and promenades. You can dismantle them into manageable pieces to put in your car boot, and most portables can travel on aircraft subject to approval.
A max speed of 3-4 mph equals a brisk walking pace, and a range of up to 2 hours is realistic.

Pavement Scooters and can take you into town and back with ease. They can generally cope with the rigours of our local pavements and are more robust than the travel scooters. These are better suited to the regular user as they offer increased capacity and practicality. Some offer more supportive seats as an option

Road Scooters provide more freedom to go where you want as they can be used on the road and pavement. They typically have larger road wheels and all-round suspension to provide the most stable and comfortable ride. Typically you benefit from a greater load capacity, full lighting, increased range and much stronger performance.
These scooters are Class 3 road legal and can travel at up to 8mph with a claimed range of up to 30 miles.
